Sectional Meet on 5/12/12

Congratulations to our track teams who performed exceptionally at the sectional meet on Saturday against 12 other schools. The 8th grade girls team took 5th place overall. The 8th grade boys took 2nd place overall. The 7th grade girls team and 7th grade boys team took 1st place at their levels! This is the 2nd sectional championship ever for a girls team from Viking and the 1st sectional championship ever for a boys team from Viking.

Qualifying for the state finals for the girls are:

Carlynn Scott in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash
Alaja Young Keyes in the shot put and discus
Peyton Rollins in the shot put
Abena Atuobi in the shot put and discus
Ciana Washington in the 100 meter dash
Emily Hudgins in the long jump
Gaby Johnson Perez in the long jump and high jump
The 4x200 meter relay team of Ciana Washington, Emily Hudgins, Mia Griffin, and Gaby Johnson-Perez.

Qualifying for the boys team are:

 Dominick Diehn in the discus
Dustin Macuiba in the mile
Tyler Keating in the hurdles
Christian Soriaga in the 200 meter dash
Brandon Ellis in the high jump, hurdles, and 200 meter dash
Melvin Pettis in the long jump
Dante Johnson in the high jump, hurdles, and 100 meter dash
The 4x100 meter relay team of Brandon Ellis, Melvin Pettis, Dante Johnson and Bryan Galvan.

CONFERENCE MEET on 5/5/12

For the first time ever, the Viking and Gurnee Grade School track & field teams swept the Conference Track Meet. All four of our teams placed first at their level out of the eight teams in the conference and brought home all four championship trophies! All of the trophies going to one school is not only a first for us, but is also unprecedented in the Northwest Suburban Conference!

Meet #5: 5/1/12 @ Round Lake

All of the Viking teams won their meets against Round Lake and Beach Park at Round Lake High School.

Meet #3: 4/19/12 at Grayslake North

All of the Viking teams remain undefeated after beating Palombi and Gavin on Thursday at Grayslake North High School.

Practices from now until the next meet are as follows: Wednesday and Friday will be 6th/7th grade boys and 8th grade girls only. Thursday and next Monday will be 8th grade boys and 6th/7th grade girls only.

At the end of this week, the teams will be notified about who will be continuing on to Conference and Sectional. For those who are not, next Tuesday's meet at Round Lake will be their last day of track this season.

The Viking teams all remain undefeated after beating Antioch on Monday.

Meet #1 4/12/12 at Warren

The first meet of the season is often difficult because many of the athletes are new to track and do not have the experience of competing against other schools or running on a real track. When the first meet is a home meet, it is especially tough because the coaches are all preoccupied with running the meet and we cannot direct our own athletes. Despite all that, all four Viking teams dominated their competition at Warren.

The 6th/7th Grade boys team scored more points than their three competitors combined! Also, the 7th grade boys 4x100 relay team of Brandon Ellis, Richie Flores, Dante Johnson, and Melvin Pettis broke the school record of 53.24 seconds set in 2009, by running a 52.04.
